Uncle Sam’s Email Marketing

December 18, 2017
Mike Dolpies

Like many small business owners I have to purchase my health insurance from the “exchange.”

The deadline for open enrollment was December 15th.

I’m all set.

Basically, my best option this year was to simply suck it up and accept my premium increase.

Yea… it sucks.

Whatever… I guess.

But hey… I am kind of a silver lining guy.

I witnessed one very minor silver lining during “open enrollment” and I shall pass it on.

I was pretty amazed at the amount of email marketing pieces and reminders I got from Healthcare- dot-Gov.

Everyday… sometimes twice in a day.

There are a couple of marketing lessons baked in.

  • I am not sure how the whole thing works, but I assume, this open enrollment period is something we all have to deal with. So it is “top of mind.”
  • Deadlines/Events. The use of email marketing running up against deadlines or upcoming events can’t be over-looked. There was no way I was gonna forget the fact I needed to do something here. (Call my lovely insurance person is what I did).
  • So many businesses struggle about how frequently they should employ email marketing.

… Liberate yourself. Follow just a little bit of Uncle Sam’s lead…   and do your email marketing consistently… perhaps not every day… just consistently.

 It will work for you.
