Social Media Through The Years
Early before You’re Late
Imagine for second…
You’re out with your friends for the night and looking for some fun. (Maybe New Year’s Eve?)
Early before You’re Late
Imagine for second…
You’re out with your friends for the night and looking for some fun. (Maybe New Year’s Eve?)
You get going early.
You visit a few spots but leave because there is not much going on.
Then, you go back later to one of the places and it’s packed.
That’s sort of metaphorical for the world of social media. (In a few ways)
I remember, signing up for Facebook in mid 2007. But then, not returning until later in 2008.
Hopping on Twitter in 2009 (that’s a party that is dying a slow death)… and then getting away from it never to return basically. (Like the nightclub that died).
Snapchat… jumped on there in the summer of 2013. Everyone was fascinated with the idea of disappearing messages. (It has now become so much more)
Instagram… circa 2012 – but just got active again…. 1- Because my 12 year old and 10 year old are both on there – PLUS – Facebook Ads have been reaching Instagram for a while now.
Periscope and Meerkat…. Ever heard of ‘em? Those two were hot live video apps in late 2014 and early 2015… BEFORE… Facebook live killed them.
Don’t beat yourself up – for being early and then leaving.
Or for being late.
Or for not showing up at all.
You only have so much bandwidth in your brain and your business for social media.
AND… when it comes to your business… all that matters is IF you’re able to find your audience, prospects, clients, members and customers.
I guess I will return to Snapchat because it seems like they’re gonna make a play to be a leader in Augmented Reality with their “spectacles.” (We shall see).
Back in 2009 when I discovered Facebook Ads and saw that I was able to turn marketing $ into a real return I was hooked.
Which is the next test you have to give any social media platform…
Can you reach your prospects using the ad platform?
That’s the question you need to answer mostly.
Through the years…
One constant…
The evolution of the web and the importance of your own website, web presence, online identity, online reputation and quality (or lack-there-of) of your website.
Social Media is very powerful. We need to be there. Just remember… how websites and landing pages have remained a constant force in online lead-generation and visitor conversion all these years.
All the best for 2017!
