Google AMP Project
Google’s New Thing
In recent months we talked about a few Google changes that will effect website rankings.
The one the stands out the most… Rank Brain … is a big one that will roll out slowly over time.
Right now one of the projects Google is working on is “AMP.”
AMP stands for “Accelerated Mobile Pages”… Also known as “The Accelerated Mobile Pages Project.”
Google wants all web publishers, website owners, etc to get on board.
The goal is to increase the speed of the “mobile web.”
The fact is…
It’s not just your 4G connection or… lack there of… that determines how fast a website loads.
How the site is built plays a major role in speed and load time.
Google has always given load time a priority in ranking… but now they will begin to take load time and mobile speed into consideration even more.
There are several things you can do to speed up load time…
Caching Software.
Certain Plug-ins that are meant to improve speeds.
Be mindful of your images and pictures.
Host videos in EZS3 or bring them in from Youtube or Vimeo – NOT on your site server.
Monitor how additional site plug-ins impact speed. Some site “plug-ins” kill speed.
Internally… we have… started to go through all of our clients’ websites to look for just small improvements. Load time has been something we have taken seriously for many years.
