The Death of Google

Right now….Mainly because of Facebook’s huge user-base of 1.7 billion people plus.

The fact Facebook owns Instagram, which is growing larger by the second.

FB Messenger’s attempt to replace your business phone number.

Because of all this…

Google is making a lot of news…

But the news about Google is more so on the “Doom and Gloom” side.

Meaning… Some tech reporters are making headlines by wondering if Google will go the way of Yahoo in ten to twenty years.

Way back… Yahoo had a huge grip on the internet. Remember? But recently, pieces of Yahoo were sold to Verizon for around 4 billion. (Pending Approval of Course) A hefty sum, but nothing compared to the fact… at one point Yahoo was worth 100 billion.

So here are the threats “they” say Google faces.

Most of Google’s billions come from search ads.

We search… they show us ads (among the organic listings). Pretty simple.

Google also has a “display network” where ads model Facebook’s ads – but without the detailed social targeting that Facebook has because of all the data Facebook collects.

Then… there is mobile. Let’s face it… most time on mobile is spent inside apps… NOT searching the web for information.

Then… there’s the idea of “crowd-sourcing” search.

Meaning… going to our social network and asking “friends” instead of searching on Google.

This happens a lot. (Social Search)

And it can help your business.

After all… if you do a lot of networking. If you’re fairly visible in your community. If you’ve been around for a while and have a solid reputation… you may very well end up with a bunch of folks on Facebook responding for you and recommending you.

Real-World Networking is more important now than ever so you can stay top of mind.

But… Despite all of this…

Google WILL Live and Be Stronger Than Ever.

WHY?

Because…

  • Not everyone will default to social networks to “ask for help.” Sometimes what we need is none of anyone’s business!
  • Even after someone goes to FB for a referral to a service provider or place of business – they WILL still usually go to Google and research the several options their network presented them.
  • People are not 100% trusting of the recommendations they get on social media. Why? Sometimes politics are involved and a referral is being given because one person may “owe” a favor to someone else. Most people don’t want to get involved in these politics.
  • Or…more on the politics… perhaps the person waving the flag on Facebook for this individual/business is just their “Croney.” Maybe they get a kick-back? Not good.

As everything goes 100% digital… Google and Facebook will dominate for years to come.

Think of it like this and you’ll come out a winner…

For the most part… Google will always dominate “intent marketing.” That means, if you can be on Google and visible when a prospect has intent you can win.

For the most part… Facebook will always dominate “discovery and interruption” marketing. If you know how to use social media to target your ideal “suspect” – then hit them with the right message at the right time… you can win.
