Plus and Minus of Google Plus

In a recent post we talked about the importance of having the “Google+” icon on your website.

Having it will enable anyone to “recommend” your site with one click.

Like I mentioned before – social share buttons from Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and Google+ are becoming more and more relevant to your overall, internet marketing and search marketing.

Even though Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn have more registered user than Google+, it’s Google that may ultimately have the advantage. Which means, the Google+ icon becomes even more important to you.

So why does Google have the advantage?

The answer is Gmail.

Gmail has 100’s of millions of users around the world.

When you + a website Google considers this a public action. It is not just shared with your Google+ contacts it can also be shared with your Gmail contacts too.

Google has been using this info to serve up targeted ads in Gmail.

And that is where the “minus” is. Some may consider this a privacy issue. Time will tell.
