Email Marketing Mobile Traffic Stats for Your Small Business
In this post I have some interesting stats about where email marketing is right now. (“Where” being the key word) and how these numbers relate to other areas of online marketing.
Before that… Let’s begin with a quote I really love…
“The most difficult subjects can be explained to the most slow-witted man if he has not formed any idea of them already; but the simplest thing cannot be made clear to the most intelligent man if he is firmly persuaded that he knows already, without a shadow of doubt, what is laid before him.”
― Leo Tolstoy
Powerful… right?
After evaluating mobile activity for permission-based email marketing campaigns during 2013, digital marketing provider Knotice claims the number of emails opened on mobile devices reached 48 percent by the end of last year.

The breakdown is about 31% Smartphones – 17% Tablets – and STILL 52% on desktops/laptops.
What’s interesting is these numbers are really in-line with the stats we track for our clients’ web traffic.
On average we see our clients pull 20% from smartphones – 15% from tablets and the rest desktop/laptops. (The exception is the restaurant industry where mobile is higher.)
The mobile numbers have increased every year for the past three years.
A few action steps…
1- Of course…track your stats.
2- Be sure your website is responsive so it looks great on all screens.
3-If you are doing email marketing (and you should be) remember that almost half of the emails going out are being read on smartphones.
Have a great week!
