Disintermediation and instant social media gurus

Disintermediation is a term usually associated with finance.

But the term has its place when it comes to marketing.

In particular…

Among all of the options when it comes to your social media.

Years ago… I pointed out how many “instant social media gurus” popped up.

Spouting off the new way of throwing all other marketing out the window and focusing on Social Media only.

What these “instant gurus” fail to recognize…

Social Medial Platforms come and go.

Remember “MySpace?”

Ever heard of Periscope or Meerkat? These were two live video sharing platforms.

How about Vine?

Google + ?

Soon… you might be able to add to the list… “Twitter.”

All of these platforms and the many you’ll see come in the future are only intermediaries.

Yes… Even Facebook is a platform… that could really go away at any time. I don’t think that’s gonna happen… Like any other industry… there will always be dominant players who stand the test of time.

Use these platforms and leverage them. I am not saying shun them.

Just don’t forget the importance of going direct and cutting out the intermediary.

The best way to do that?

Email Marketing.

Direct Mail Marketing.

And perhaps your own Mobile App.

These are examples of being able to go direct.

Something to think about.
