Facebook Used
Businesses that profit from addiction? One comes to mind…“Big Tabaco.”
I was not around, but I’ve heard about and seen ads for cigarettes that were all nice and fluffy. Everyday Americans enjoying their Cools and Winston’s.
One ad actually stated “they don’t only taste good, but they’re good for you.” Wow!
All the while, the companies injected addictive ingredients to their products to hook their customers.
Eventually… BIGGER Government stepped in and you know what happened.
How Facebook Makes Money…
Just like Big Tabaco made their money by hooking their customers, Facebook has to do the same thing.
The more you scroll, the more ads you will see and the more money Facebook will make for its shareholders.
To keep you scrolling Facebook must bake in addictive ingredients. Ingredients that release chemicals in your brain that make you feel good as you scroll, like, comment and interact.
The idea that Facebook can be a “happy place” where you can connect with your friends and family and the need to keep you addicted so the ad revenue piles in are competing interests.
Make no mistake about it…
You are not a “Facebook User”…. You are a “Facebook Used.”
You are used by Facebook.
What about Google?
If you compare these two tech giants, I think Google has much more “good” to offer the world.
At least you can “USE Google.” Sure, Google still uses you to make money. Google gives you free email, free GPS and all these great things so they can gather data on you to serve you ads and make money. But You can make a case that you use Google more than Google uses you.
I think it’s a matter of time before something gives with Facebook because every business based on addiction eventually gets forced by Big Government to change.
